My Blog = Inspiring?

I received the following email yesterday from a friend, and was insanely flattered. Plus, I love the poem! It's so creative, total props to Margaret for the imaginative revisions. God, is it possible for any of the Schwankes to be anything less than totally rad?
(PS for reference, see my Jan 10 entry entitled, "ow.")

I was given the assignment to take any piece of media I could find, and turn it into a love poem! The only rules were, you could add only 2 new words, and delete a lot of them! I wanted to use your blog from when you got your wisdom teeth out! ^_^ I think the poem is okay, but I want to know from the original author, do you like it?

Heart Surgery

I'm sitting on my couch

right now,

feeling awkwardly sore.

the same clothes

I've been wearing since Thursday.

How did I get here?

my parents have been telling me I needed to get my wisdom out this winter break.

Why does that make a difference?

I have a sort of a chipmunk effect.

They cut a heart,

pull it out,

and replace it

with a little marshmallow...

Awesome.

they were being really nice, but I really, really, really don't like pain

after they gave me laughing gas.

we were "gonna stay friends."

So here I am spazzing,

I felt kind of funny,

me sitting there sobbing with them.

that was

the

most awkward elevator ride of my whole life!

I was sort of in and out of consciousness...

Will

came over yesterday, a nice break from the monotony
he made a

super tasty milkshake,

"with love"

tasty chef boyardee.

More later

maybe

So...do I like it? more like love.

God does love you (and your commie, homo-loving friends) :]

I love, LOVE, that a movie about a spokesperson for the LGBTQ community, who was so amazing and did so much, could be as successful at the oscars as it was. It really says a lot about where we are as a nation, and where we are headed.

Dustin Lance, you are adorable! And so right. Sean Penn had some good things to say as well:

the future looks so bright!

Love

Is beautiful, rare, exquisite. And on this holiday created to celebrate such a divine expression of human existence, I just wanted to honor everyone who's ever loved, or been loved. No matter who you are, as long as it's real, true love, it's perfect.

And since I couldn't say it any better, here's Mr. Olbermann's (old, but forever relevant) commentary on the subject of marriage discrimination:

happy valentine's day '09.

Potential Future Baby Names

Yesterday I met a boy named Deg. Can we just stop for a second and reflect on the awesomeness of that name? Apparently it's Irish, even though he isn't. I asked if he liked or disliked growing up with that name, and the confusion that inevitably accompanied it. He said he'd always been proud of his name, and despite teachers/new friends/telemarketers having problems with it, he's never minded spelling it out for people, clarifying. He said actually, he liked to make little mnemonics, such as "like egg but with a 'D' at the beginning" to help with pronunciation (apparently, even after hearing him say it AND spell it, some people still had trouble getting it).

So this got me thinking about cool baby names, and the ones I've been saving up. Sometimes together with a boy to match his last name, and sometimes just because the name sounds nice to me. You know when you feel like you've forgotten something, but when you try to remember, you have no clue at all so you have to finally conclude you must have just made it up? That's how I feel about this list. Every time I sit down and think about it, i feel like I used to have a longer list, but can never remember them. So in the name of bad memory, and new blogging material, here is my list of Potential Future Baby Names:

-Deg
-Marie (My sister's, and Caitlin's middle name)/Maria
-Eve/Eva
-Cale (My friend's middle name)

A lot of these names came from kids that I've worked with, or people I've met in my life. Likewise, there are a few names I probably would have liked but for the people I associate them with. Not that I especially dislike those people, the name will just be inexplicably tied to that person. Other names sound pretty but conjure up images/thoughts/memories i don't absolutely love. That, plus the grandeur and pomp that accompany some of the following, have led to my list of Names I Like But Probably Would Never Actually Use, Except on Pets and Stuffed Animals:
-Guillaume
-Kismet
-Lwellyn
-Devorah
-Reuven
-Kasiya
-Asya (pronounced Asia)
-Eridanus
-Ariadne
-Artemis
-Daedalus
-Psyche

-Carlisle
-Eleazar
-Caius
-Athenodora
-Desdemona
-Allegra
-Aïsha/Oiche
-Trinity/Trinidad/Trini
-Luna
-Clara
-Lily
-Piper

Looking at this list, I appear to really like As, Es, Is, and LLs. And mythological/biblical names. I guess it's cause those vowels, especially combined, make really soft sounds. And I really like old-fashionedy stuff anyway, like victorian era and Amish sounding. And I've always loved mythology.

I don't know whether to pity or envy my future children.

PS please feel free to suggest more names!
